Tags & segmentation

Tagging clients, filtering by tag, and using tags to drive automations like seasonal auto-pause.

Tags are free-form labels you attach to clients. They are purely organizational — creating a tag does nothing on its own. Tags become powerful when used for filtering, reporting, and automations.

Creating tags

From any client detail page, type a new tag name in the tag box. Pick a color. Save. The tag now exists on your tenant. It will appear as a filter pill on the Clients index.

Filtering by tag

On the Clients index, every tag shows as a colored pill with a count. Click a pill to filter. Click again to clear. Pills respect multi-select: click two tags to see clients who have either.

Common tags we see working

  • vip — clients you treat with kid gloves. Drives a custom message template.
  • seasonal — clients who pause in off-months. Drives the seasonal auto-pause automation.
  • net-30 — commercial accounts with extended payment terms. Drives a dunning cadence override.
  • at-risk — clients showing churn signals. Surfaces on a weekly report you build.
  • commercial — businesses. Separates from residential in reports.

Tag-driven automations

As of April 2026, one automation is built and live:

  • Seasonal auto-pause. Clients tagged with your configured seasonal tag auto-pause and auto-resume based on your active-months setting.
More tag-driven automations are on the roadmap: custom dunning cadences per tag, targeted newsletter segments, tag-triggered template variants. See the changelog.
Deleting a tag does not delete the clients. It removes the tag from all attached clients (they keep their other tags). This is reversible by re-creating the tag, but you will lose the per-client attachments.
